How do I connect to my Valheim server?

Valheim is an Early Access game, and these instructions may change without prior notice. Though we will do our best to keep you looped in for any possible updates, we highly recommend that you reach out to us if the instructions below do not work for you.
Our servers are always updated, so make sure Valheim is updated on Steam before connecting to prevent a version mismatch. We also recommend that you disable/turn off any mods that require a server counterpart to prevent any issues.
Congratulations on setting up your Valheim server! We're excited for you to have great adventures in the game.

Now that you've completely set up your server on ValheimServerHosting, it's time to play the game. As of writing, there are two recommended ways to connect to your Valheim server — Direct Connect and through the Steam Server Browser. For both of these methods, you'll need to take note of your server details.

Where can I find my server's details?

Your server details can be found in the Server Confirmation Screen, "Your Servers" pane in My Dashboards, and your server's main dashboard.

Direct Connect Method

Directly connecting to your server is the most common way to connect and play on your Valheim server. However, it is a pretty tedious method to use because you need to enter your server's IP address every time you want to play. It's great for instances where Steam Server Browser has issues, though.

Steps

Open Valheim
Click on the "Start Game" button



Create a new character or select your existing one
In the following screen, click on the "Join Game" tab over on the left hand side of the screen
Click on the "Join IP" button in the "Join Game" tab



Now, this is the most important part. Paste your server's IP Address and Game Port in the field and click on the "Add this Address to Favorites" button. The Game Port can be found in your server dashboard.



After entering those details, you should be prompted for your server's password. Enter that and you should be good to go!

Steam Server Browser Method

Valheim still has no reliable in-game server browser. Because of this, we highly recommend that you save your Valheim server in your "Favorites" at the Steam Server Browser. This is our preferred way of connecting to Valheim servers, since you don't have to keep entering your server's IP address every time you want to play.

Steps

Open Steam
On the top left portion of your Steam window, click on View. In the dropdown that just opened, click on Servers



On the lower right side of the Servers window, click on Add a Server



Now, this is the most important part. Paste your server's IP Address and Query Port in the field and click on the "Add this Address to Favorites" button. The Query Port can be found in your server dashboard. You should be using the Quick Connect IP.



...and there you have it! Your Valheim server should now be in your Steam Server Browser. You can now enter your server by either double-clicking your server or clicking the connect button. Usually, if your server doesn't appear, just try clicking the refresh button and the server should appear.
